Act For Kids – One Less Present

In the Spirit of Giving This Christmas

Leading child protection organisation Act for Kids is urging families to have an important conversation about gift-giving this Christmas, knowing many children go without.

As children begin writing never-ending Christmas lists to Santa, Act for Kids’ initiative, One Less Present, invites parents to ask their child which present they’d go without for a child who has nothing.

To help Santa make the child’s decision official, the parent enters the gift at which generates a market price value of the item.

This value is donated to Act for Kids to fund life-changing therapy and support services delivered free to children who have suffered abuse and neglect.

Act for Kids CEO Dr Neil Carrington said One Less Present endorses how “the best gift this Christmas is to give one up.”

“It is a great way to teach children about generosity, kindness, and the true Christmas spirit,” he said.

“The campaign is directed towards parents and children, however, it is also a timely reminder for people of all ages, including adults, to think about how going without can help others so much more.”

When it comes to going without, Dr Carrington said one less present represents the true values of Christmas.

“Whether a child decides to go without a video game or a pack of crayons, the fact that they are thinking of others and donating something that is important to them means we are nurturing a generation of children who are kind and willing to make a positive contribution to society,” he said.

“Now that’s what Christmas should be all about.”
