Jamala Wildlife Lodge – Room with a Zoo!
Located in the capital of Australia, Jamala Wildlife Lodge offers guests the opportunity to experience close encounters with some of the world’s most dangerous and endangered animals, all within the comfort of its individually designed five-star accommodation hubs.
Guests at Jamala can choose from the Giraffe Treehouse, where you can hand feed ‘Hummer’, one of their resident giraffes from your balcony, the Jungle Bungalows where you may find the only thing separating you from lions, tigers, a cheetah or Malayan sunbear is a thick pane of glass and finally, the uShaka Lodge, the main building at Jamala and the former residence of the owners of the Lodge.
With seven rooms, uShaka houses a magnificent shark in the centre of the lounge as well as two Colobus monkeys that will happily check you out as you arrive! Guests have the opportunity to choose from ‘sharing’ a room with lemurs or sharks, or make a booking in one of the Wild Encounter rooms where you get to have a personal encounter with cheetahs, meerkats or hyenas within the Zoo.
Jamala, translates to ‘friendly, well mannered’ in Swahili and has been open to the public since 2014. Monies generated by the lodge are invested back into the Zoo to assist with their breeding, conservation and education programs.
Situated in and around the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra, the Jamala Wildlife Lodge houses a variety of animals, including some rescued from unfortunate circumstances, with the aim to educate guests through interactive experiences, leaving them with an understanding of both the animals and important conservation issues.
The combination of opulent surroundings, incredible animal encounters and gourmet cuisine, alongside Jamala’s five-start hospitality, ensures that all guests share in a once in a lifetime experience during their stay.
